Still working on my Thimbleberries 2011 month blocks, I have month 4 done, I have 112 border block pieces that need to made for the same quilt.

My machine didn't want to play nicely last week. Took it in, all that was wrong, was the prewind cardboard bobbin. GRRRRRRRrrrrrrr

At least I have all the pieces cut and marked, sewed about 20 pieces.

I need to do this years Thimbleberries, or I'll be behind again, 3 years in a row. I'm thinking I shouldn't do Thimbleberries.

I'm also working on Bonnie Hunters pineapple-blossom by doing leader and enders.

Off the quilting subject: I went and had a pedicure and a first time facial. If the facial wasn't so expensive, I'd put that in my monthly budget. So no fabric this month lol.

On a even happier happening around here: My middle daughter will be home from Bahrain and Kuwait this coming week. Home for a few days, than off to her new duty station in the States :-)

Sighting of bald eagles

Where is the camera when you need it? Driving today by a field, we saw two bald eagles sitting in a field. My daughter, said she seen one flying over the field last week. I've never seen a bald eagle, they are pretty big.

Thimbleberries block of the month. I'm working on block 3, yes I know I am WAY BEHIND, just haven't had the sewing bug this year.

I will take a picture of the quilt picked #5 for the UFO challenge for this month, tomorrow.
No sun, outside was deary. The quilt is a pastel pink.blue, purple and a floral. I have decided to add borders to make it bigger.

so the big day is over, I took today as vacation day. I have a total of five days off, needed a mini vacation off with the drama of work.

I received an IPad 2 for Christmas, my favorite candies, a calendar, and a hand food slicer and gift card for Coldstone ice cream. there goes the diet, Oh like I was thinking I could lose weight.

I hope to sew a little bit today, I'm so far behind on my block of the month. But at the moment in bed with all the black and white animals. For April, your polo thinks an IPad is cool, he has tried to climb on it and now just on my shoulder watching me type.

Almost freezing my buns off on "Farcha Day"   Oh where, oh where is the nice weather?
So my day started out doing:
   1 dogs out, Yum Yum pee'd on every blade of grass, yes there are alot of them!
   2. Made bed, neurotic cat unmade bed, remade bed again, the same crazy cat unmade it again. note to self - stapled or glue said cat to the door while making the dam bed!!!
3. Get dressed, see self in mirror.   Complain about hair cut to neurotic cat to see if he is listening- nope unmaking bed again.    Haircut ask for 1/2 to 1 inch, come out with 3 inches gone on already short hair    grrrr.
4. Tried to cut out fabric-- nope fabric - tree hugger cat sits on fabric, than on ruler. moved said 20 lb cat off table, pick up rotary cutter to cut, 20lb cat back where it started. GAVE UP trying to sew
5. Rest room break ha!!! 1st neurotic cat going crazy banging on door, 2nd 20lb ramming said door, I thought swat team wanted in.
brush teeth with crazy cat-- brushed hair or lack of - petting crazy cat.
by 7:00 need nap
6. 8:20 am go to #1 daughters to go food shopping      Get home from shopping trip 1:30pm.
7. Take 2 crazy dogs out--yup every blade of grass re-pee'd by Yum Yum! great job Molly do business ready to go in.
8. Put groceries away
9. Lunch time -- easy.... salad
10. Go to eat said salad-- 2 dogs 3 cats want it, 4th cat watching from afar. -- finally got to 2:45pm
11. Played a little Cafe World     problems with game went to different game
12. Hubby comes home -- neurotic cat driving him nuts.
13. I have Yum Yum on my hip, Buttercup on Right arm, typing one handed.
   thinking of nap -- oh wait found chips   mmmm good.    ok think of nap again.
4:02 pm what to do    what to do   house cleaning, laundry, or sew       thankfully dishes done 7ish, vacuumed last night.

Bad girl yes :-) I took a class with Marci Baker 2 weeks ago, the samples are still in the bag I brought home. I did go buy a new rotary cutter, much safer, it the one when you release the blade it retracts, much safer (oh I said that lol) I pulled out the sewing machine, got a new iron board cover for $28 (better last forever, it's a xlarge ironing board) Got the quilt picked out to finish for March. Also have three more in the have to get done mode-- real soon, 2 are baby quilts, babies due in May and June - coworkers and still working on a quilt for my daughters friend. Also want to work on my Grandmother flower garden quilt, need to take the basting out on all those 1 million pieces...... by the time I finish this quilt it will feel like 20 million pieces.

Well this has been along time since blogging. I'm going to blame it on games..... plus to lazy to write.
So family, you know how life is, but to anyone else reading this blog it has been interesting few months. My daughter that is in the military is in Bahrain, for a year (10 months to go). Yes she was there for the uprising, she says it has calmed down alot. Funny how I read more on the world news now.   We the family have been taking turns getting sick, my oldest daughter been sick almost 4 weeks, than the grandson got sick, also almost 4 weeks, and than the son-in -law got sick.   In between all of it, I of course wanted to get it too, I was down for 2 weeks. Lost all energy to do anything, diet,walk, sew, watch movies and think.
So here it is 12:56pm Sunday, need to get sewing....

I did sew yesterday the 1st, I put borders around my 12 inch blocks, By the end of the day, I had the blocks sew together in rows. I sewed them into 2 sections I hope to have the top together before borders tonight. Since I don't count till a quilt, we are at ZERO. I was able to aew the 2 pieces together, got the cream inner border cut out, will get the outer border cut tomorrow.

Been away to long, need to get back into sewing again. I have a long arm appointment on Wednesday, haven't decided what to sew. Need to figure that out by this afternoon, in case I need more fabric for the backing and batting.

So an oh what happened in the old days story:
Back in '77 we lived in Seabrook N.H. - dad worked at small gas station part time, he was in the Coast Guard full time. Well, I went to visit him there and while talking, dad put his foot a little to close to the car. Yes, just what your giggling about happened.
I ran his foot over, but the worst part was -- while he is rolling on the ground holding his foot, two police officers saw it happened. They wanted to know if dad wanted to press charges, while I was laughing so hard (triggered by stress) He was fine, no broken bones. So I went and got my ice cream! MMM it was the best little shop near that darn gas station.
How about the time tried to teach me to drive a standard stick shift... Again in Seabrook, we lived near the race track, while waiting to go, trying to balance the gas and clutch. Well it was my turn, I gunned the gas a little to much. All I remember is the cop ducking from he dirt and rocks shooting at him from my screeching tires. ( laughing here, with tears) I do know how to drive a standard now. Dad took me to a car dealership and we test drove a car, yup it was a standard, I drove it a little bit in "A" parking lot almost got the gear stuck in the 1--3 rd position stuck in the middle.

So April wanted me to add a funny thing that I did 28 years ago. Since I'm still not a great bread maker, here is why..... About 28 years ago, I wanted to make a teddy bear loaf of bread I saw in a magazine. Well, I had most of the ingredients, except milk. I did have some formula from Elizabeth's supply. Well the bread came out very pretty - golden brown, oh the taste was different :-) VERY DENSE. To this day I don't attempt to make bread.

Or how about the time I tried to give dad a haircut on Halloween back in 77. We lived in a apartment building. So here I was with an electric razor, trimming his hair and the door bell rang with a trick or treater, I didn't even know we had a door bell at that place (lol) Well you can guess what happened...... yup I took a big chuck out, needless to say he had to totally shaved. I haven't done that since either!

The other thing we used to do in the "old" days was follow the husbands ship port to port. That is how I got the name seagull, any wife that met the ship in port was called that, because the seagulls always followed ships around port to port.

Not alot has happened during this month for me. I worked on Elizabeth's king size log cabin quilt at the beginning of the month, I've put the binding on, now just to hand sew....
I did find a new sewing machince, she is about 7 months younger than me! She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey I've been told. I think it is Elizabeth City, New Jersey, I'll research later. She is a Singer 221 black, paid alittle to much, but less fabric this year, it all works out.   lol
Just shut off the lights from the Halloweeners, we got about 15 this year, so glad I only bought one bag today.
For sewing- very little happened here, I did get Little monkeys costume sewn, he wanted white stripes on his ghost outfit, also wanted 10 stripes, I got 6 on it. I hope he had a great time out there this year. I didn't get to see him today, I'll look for a picture on his blog. I did take a picture of DD#3 dressed as a flapper :-) oh to be thin enough to get away with that outfit :-)
To DD2 glad to hear you arrived safely, that was a looooonnnngggg drive.   Can't wait to see you next month, plan to take off a few days to drive you crazy (love ya honey lol)
On the animal front, Yum Yum  had his exam and shots, he is "talking" to me again. Molly just being silly, I found her in a little plastic container for their toys, she was overflowing in it. Polo has been allowing me to brush him every day, getting ready to see his "MOMMA" Buttercup is filling out nicely, Chester just being Chester, grooms all day and last but not least Abigail, she loves her "mommas" quilt, I find her on it every morning, keepng the other cats off it.

I sewed on Thursday with the longarm. 7 hours doing a queen/king quilt doing the baptist fans. Need to put binding on, no pictures this week. I could barely stand, sit, or move after that sucker quilt. Than I volunteered to help our local quilt shop more into a larger building. I worked my regular job for 10 hours, than moved the shop around for 6 more hours, and went back for another 7 hours. Boy, I'm tired!

Trying to work on a quilt

Trying to take measurements for the borders, as you can see, didn't get far. Three of the four cats have checked it out today. I might have to go to the quilt store tomorrow to work on it.

Updated: 9-11-10 I was able to put the borders on, now to book time on the long arm machine.

These are the lighthouses we visited during our stay in Maine with April. I have no clue how many miles we walked, I know just in one day, we did over 4 miles between 2 lighthouses. Went to a couple of restaurants, one was the Brass Compass, on the expensive side for only be ok food. We also went to one called The Farmhouse, very good and very reasonable.

This is one of the quilt shops I hit. Maine-ly sewing.
We went to go in the door was locked, my daughter tried another door it was OPEN. The sales person said it must have been the ghost locking the door. lol we all had a laugh with that. Than I was told they have 40% fabric upstairs, of course we went up. Found a couple of fabrics there too, while coming down the stairs, I got to the bottom and turned to go into another room, a shelf and a bolt of fabric hit me in the calves. That was to weird, either she wanted me out of there or suggesting heavily to purchase her choice. It turned out her fiance was building the house for her, but she died before ever getting married or moving in. Just what I need, a ghost chasing me out the building, without fabric. I did travel over 3000 miles to see this one and the Quilt Divas right in Rockland Maine, walking distance to my daughters house. We had fun at the 2 stores.

What do you think of the red strip? Maybe 3.5 inches or the same as the other two? I wanted to get this quilt finished this month, so many so close on being done.
Ok went with 4in border, always can cut back, I think I'll use scrappy white for binding.

This time, I found fabric that really is 45" wide. I had made doll clothes, baby sundresses with this, my daughters are 31,30,28. Kinda afraid to dig deeper in the stash...... Oh why don't I get calls, I sit and sleep with my phone. Alway just a paw reach away. I've been wishing my human momma would call me...

Oh wait, when did you get home human momma??? What you say?? you have been here the whole time !! Where was I? Sleeping? I don't think so, I would have known. I guess I better keep my good eye one you. As Molly is sleeping again.....but I noticed she pops open and eye every so often to look at me.

Chester went to the groomers today, he is wearing his suede spandex suit again. New groomer to him, she did leave the fur on the tail and his legs so he looks like he is wearing spandex. LOL

Our new little girl weighs in at 5 lbs, about 10 years, and she has a Uri, upper respiratory infection and she has only a few teeth. So far, her sneezing is a couple times a day, I'm trying to keep her eyes cleared, they look yucky with eye goobers. She does eat very well, 4-5 sm cat cans a day, drinks, and uses her litter pan. We'll be adopting this week, just fostering till she gets her rabies shot, than to the vet and groomer.

Sisters Quilt Show

We drove to Sisters, Oregon today and back, 7 hour round trip. I believe my daughters had a good time, my grandson like all the colors. He liked this horse and in the same room, there were lots of dog art quilts to. Some of the quilts I liked, I love the Lighthouse one.

Ok here is my story: last Sunday, I take the quilt in to make an appointment for the longarm. I'm a little concerned about the ripples, well last 9 borders on, now last 9 borders are OFF. The quilt shop owner and I, are taking off 9 BORDERS, did I mention there were tears rolling down my cheeks, just a few. So all this week, I go to her shop, as I'm learning about Conquer and Divide (new to me) pinning yuck. So I'm starting on Border 3 again.. Let me tell you about the nightmare, the bias grew while taking off the border. Now I'm stuck till this week, trying to figure out how to correct the growing pieces. Thinking I should take a quilt class, or two learn about borders and such.

Almost forgot to mention, after I have looked at this quilt a million times. I found 3 big mistakes, I dropped the blocks out, and turned them correctly.

My Iris plant is growing crazy this year over 30 blooms, I'll need to split it this fall, just hope I don't kill it. When I moved here it had 5 blooms, 20 years later 30 and still going....

Today I finished putting on the last border on my Morning Splash from Judy L web site http://www.patchworktimes.com/ Started working on the next ufo in line, I have 8 blocks done already, have another 6 parts ready to become blocks.

I'm also trying to lose weight, I walked 30 minutes today, boy the muscles are screaming. That saying No Pain No gain

Finally got some sewing accomplished today. So far, I have put three borders on this quilt today!

2 more borders to go...... there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Also got some things done around the house. Took Chester to the Vet for his shots, while there had his ears cleaned, boy he is mad at me.

Update #2 Finished last border at 7:30 am Thurs, now to schedule some quilting time.

I guess with my new blood pressure meds worked little overtime, actually I've been having a problem with low blood pressure. Funny, I never realize how much bending down, lifting small things sent me in a woozy state. So I'm off that med for the weekend, will see what happens taking none.

I think. Always thought April 15th was about about getting taxes done, not feeling like death. I graciously had a stomach flu, moaned like a big baby, I was so dehydrated I had no tears. Must have been bad, none of the animals slept with me either. Dad took care of Jack, he didn't want to see me either. Someone must of told him about my crazy hair day, stood straight up.

So today I'm 75% back to normal, my tummy is still feeling floppy. Hard to say if it still the flu or one of my prescriptions, I started 2 new ones this month, of course they have side effects.

Happy Easter everyone!!!! I haven't sewn for 3 weeks now. I have to prepare 2 quilts for my rented time on a longarm this weds. 0 in 0 out still at 16 in for the year Donated out ytd 130 yds So what have I been doing? I have been working on my sewing rooms, yes, that is with a "S" . I have 2 and now taking the dining room over. My daughters are helping me move my sewing room into 1 room, the family room is MINE, ok the cats can stay there too (food and cat boxes in 2 corners) I had 25 totes of stuff and 4 huge moving boxes, still going thru them. So far I have rid myself 4 huge moving boxes of knitting machine yarn that was given to me 8 years ago, down to 10 totes of yarn. Donated lots of yarn 4 large trash bag, and fabric, so far 100 yards gone, Mostly fleece, flannel (which I hate, have no clue why I bought it) christmas fabric, and clothes making fabric, of course fabric to make quilts to donate, not happening this year out it went too. 4 totes to go thru, this week I attacked the OLD mags, so far I'm up to 2001 some from the 80's gone except for a couple. Also old stuff flower making stuff, wreaths,flowers, foam etc --from classes I took in the 80's. I'm on vacation as of Weds for a week, hope to have more done. I had planned for today except I ended up sleeping 14 hours straight. I must of been really, really tired, never sleep over 7 on a good day.

Ok, missed last week. No new numbers in or out for sewing. Donated 30 yds BUT I have been busy, at 6:43 pm, I sewed on the last hexagon to my grandmother flower garden quilt. I need to toss in the dryer on fluff, try to remove 3 years of fur from it. Been going thru my sewing room, scary project. I have donated lots of stuff. about 30 cones of knitting machine yarn, so far 30 yds of fabric, tip of iceberg, other skeins of yarn. Not mention some ufo's that went into trash, that was hard but I did it. Already filled the trash can this week again, my have to find empty neighbor cans, mmm where is """"Judy L's can?"""" Started looking thru a few totes of books, I need more time to do all my quilts running thru my poor head lol.

I have been working on this quilt too. I have these pieces pieced together , now to sew them onto the quilt. If I make this quilt again, I really need to follow the instructions for these pieces. I didn't catch to trim to 4 7/8 before sewing on. Some don't quite match but I took pictures and looked and looked, only one stands out, but I can live with it.

I'm sooooooo stuck on hour 12 with Morning Splash, I didn't quite follow hour 11 correctly. So I couldn't figure what I did wrong to the last four. So I've been slowly trimming the million "geese" or mickey mouses ears. I'm doing the Thimbleberries this year, I have month 1 & 2 finished Practicing square in square blocks, for a future quilt in my brain, maybe a purple star quilt of some sort. (April) I'm looking into get cheap tickets to fly to Maine in August. I'm really want to visit DD2 during the (mmmmmm) Losterfest. Need to find out her ship schedule for them. It doesn't help when 2 quilt shops have sales this weekend. Fabric Deport on the East side of Portland, had their monthly 35% off. Than my LQS shop had their 6th Anniversary sale this weekend, ends tomorrow, just in case I need more. I prefer to use the LQS, a quarter of a yard is normally 10 to 12inches instead a 9 inch or 8 3/4th depending which stores you go to. (I no longer buy from the national chain store fabrics. If I do, I make them recut it to the 9" to much hassle. While shopping I bought a skein of sock yarn, gonna try a kid pair of socks.

I have 4 blocks done for hour 6. I have to sew up the rest, and get the next part the corner triangles. It is slowly coming together, yesterday I spent about 9 hours sewing and ironing.

Heading out to do some errands, cats need food! Boy all they do is eat and sleep, oh wait get in my face while sewing too.

I been working on the grandmother flower garden. I started to rework on Morning splash from Judy L site www.patchworktimes.com/quilt-for-an-hour-projects/morning-splash/

Since I'm so slow, I think for me it is quilt for a month projects.. Started end of Oct 09 here on 2/10-10 step 4 is almost finished.

UPDATE: At 10:50 pm just finished step 5, four was finished at 3pm. I had a real hard time doing the geese, finally after a million rip-its I got them working alot easier. Still took forever!!!!

The night wasn't wasted, I threw a load of clothes in washer and the dryer and a load of dishes in. Have a head start for tomorrow, 2 loads of clothes to go, plus I want to shampoo living carpet. We won't mention names, but SHE piddled on it 2 times this week, both dogs being punished at night, no freedom while I sleep.

I did accomplish 18 more white fillers, starting to look finished yeah. I have one more flower to cut out, all week it has been saying have angels on the fabric. I don't buy that kind of fabric, so I just went thru my stash, funny I found angels in there. So next week I hope to say I put on the last flower. I also hope to say the top is a flimsy but I won't push it this week.

I was making more hexagons for the grandmother flower garden quilt, I got another 10 prepared. I also sewed on another 10 on the quilt so far today. I watched Jack today, took our NANA nap :-) he feels he doesn't need them, so I tell him to watch nana nap while he watches a movie or my quilting dvd, he is normally out in 5 minutes, today was no exception. I can't believe how grown up he is getting, and such a smart boy, we do our counting everyday and work on the alphabet, he can spell also.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.

Said the traditional "Rabbits" first thing this AM, been saying that phrase for over 40 years. Went looking for the phrase, seems to go back to England, must have been my grandmother saying that to me, every first on the month, than me to my girls.

Gosh, last night sounded like a war zone here. We must had aleast 200 hundred illegal fireworks going off. They started popping at 11:45pm, kept going till 12:30am. My poor dog was about to have a heart attack, poor YumYum.

I went shopping with Liz this AM to Joann's. We ended up at 2 of them, found the fabric I needed and the yarn for a scarf Liz plans to make for me. Came home cut 10 strips for the fillers for the Grandmother Flower Garden again.

What I would like to do for 2010 For Chrstmas this year, I received Dave Ramsey's book. I know the purpose is to have no debt, well it hit me while reading it as reducing stash. I have about 20 ufo's that really need be promoted to quilts. So step 1: Figure out what I really have as UFO'S--- That might take a year :-) -- Step 2: List all those UFO's on a spreadsheet --That will take another year-- Step 3: Finish the one that is closet to being done Step 4: Snowball effective time- Take the next closet to being done, etc.... Step 5: Still reading book ...... I hope to have 4 quilts done by April 15th
